Contact Improvisation, the fall after Paxto
Workshop with Júlio Cerdeira
balleteatro
Contact Improvisation is a movement research practice initiated by Steve Paxton in 1972 in the United States of America, which is essentially based on physical contact and the sharing of weight between bodies to create interdependent movement. Founded as a post-modern movement dance practice, this technique, which is highly centered on creation-improvisation exercises, has proved to be fundamental in the way it has redefined concepts such as trust, falling, interrelationship and touch in contemporary dance. In this workshop we will understand how this practice has evolved over the years, relating to other forms of dance that rethink, update and problematize it in contemporary creation.
